YAM!!
She has been a long time coming! Finally she arrived on Monday Nov 20th. What a long day! L & I left home Monday morning at 9:30 to go to Amhest (3 1/2 hours from here) to collect Yam, anticipating that the transport bus would be through the border early afternoon. Originally they expected to arrive at the border at approximately 4:00 a.m. - from Texas - 2300 mile trip which began on Friday the 17th... but the bus (carrying 65 rescue dogs) had a number of mechanical failures and didnt get to the border until around 630 p.m. - then the broker made an error on some paperwork (had one adopter assigned to 18 dogs - not 1) so that took extra time. By the time they got to Amherst after their first stop in St John NB it was 11:30 p.m. The process getting the dogs and paperwork to the right owners went fairly smoothly but with 40 odd dogs left to go...took time. It was very cold waiting for Yam -9 degrees and with the windchill much colder...poor dogs & puppies!! Comng from Texas where it is 20 degrees during the day and not much cooler at night!
Day 3 in Canada and I must say Yam is settling in well. She is very sweet, playful and seems to listen quite well (but she IS still settling in...so will check back in soon...)
She has her first vet appointment on the 29th - will be interesting to see what the vet thinks as far as how big she might get. My guess is max 40lbs as she is quite petite and her paws are not very big...but...
All of the cats seem to be very interested and not at all alarmed - in fact Yam seems more wary of them (smart puppy) than they are of her.
Lots of fun days ahead!!
